One week left! (6-17-14)

Hey everyone!

I´m flying out a week from today! Crazy! Our flight leaves at 6:20 Tuesday morning and we have a layover in El Salvador! It´s so weird to think that a week from today I´ll be in Nicaragua! What?!? We get to email on Monday since we´ll be traveling Tuesday. Exciting stuff. We had our one month party a few days ago. Aka we bought a ton of cookies from the tienda and studied outside haha.

So many things happened this week. Tuesday night, we were watching the devotional from Elder Quentin L. Cook that was broadcasted from the Provo MTC, when all of a sudden an elder from our zone got up and went over to tell something to President Pratt. We thought someone fainted or something so we looked over to where he had been sitting (we were in the front row) and there was water rushing in from underneath the double doors at the front right side of the auditorium! They had us and a few rows of missionaries behind us move to the back of the auditorium since it was a lot of water that was rushing in. It was raining A LOT. They had workers and some elders go up to the front and sweep the water that was coming in the one door across the front of the auditorium and out the door on the left. We just kept watching the devotional. Or at least tried to understand as much as we could with a literal RIVER running through the building haha. Afterwards they just had us go back to our houses. It was still raining and the streets were flooded. It was pretty exciting. We just took off our shoes and made a break for it. Also, I realized later that my water bottle had gotten swept away in the flood since I had forgotten to pick it up when we changed seats. I was crushed, but I was able to get a new one.

I´m definitely used to this 10:30 bedtime now. Some of our teachers were talking to us at 9 about a dance they were going to later that night and I literally thought to myself "wow, they´re going to be staying out late" and then I just had to start laughing since apparently now 11 is late to me. We had TRC this week and Hermana Olsen and I were teaching a 15 year old boy (found out later that he was one of our teacher´s brothers). He was so great. It was a bit rough in the beginning since we were struggling a bit with understanding what he was saying. Also, we didn´t really know what to teach him since he was a member, but then once we switched our focus from what we were going to say, to trying to discern what he needed to hear, the lesson turned around. The spirit was so strong. I love that I can feel the love that God has for the people we are teaching. So many things came to mine and Hermana Olsen´s minds that was not from us. I love this gospel so much. It was such a testimony to me of our purpose of helping people come to Christ whether they are a member or not.

Last week, we were leaving in the morning to go to class and we were cutting through the laundry room like always. I was first and once I turned the corner, I saw one of the sticky mouse traps they had put in the house to catch any mice in the middle of the floor with some big brown thing on it. I couldn´t tell what it was, but all I knew was that it was MOVING. I lept back and may or may not have screamed. Hermana Olsen and I looked closer and it was a bird. It was one of the saddest things I have ever seen. I was so sad. Hermana Spencer called reception so they would come get it and opened with the classy line "Buenos Dias, we have a dead bird in our house." Haha and then when they asked who it was/ which house, she was like "This is the casa del ratón." For some reason, the animals just love us.

I think all birds might have a vendetta against us now for some reason though because when Hermana Olsen and I came home from getting haircuts today, There was this gigantic black pigeon just perched on the ledge above the door to our casa. I didn´t see it until I was right below it. It was terrifying haha. It wasn´t moving, just staring us down. We ran away from the door and Hermana Spencer came to see what we had been yelling about. She opened the door and we didn´t want a repeat of the earlier bird story so we yelled at her to close it. She saw through the window that the bird was there and tapped the window with the broom she had and the pigeon after like 30 seconds, flew off right at me! I had to duck. Then of course, we sprinted inside before anything else could happen. Most definitely an adventure.

I love the CCM. It seems like I have been here for forever and for no time at all. I´m so exited to get out there and serve. I love you all!

Hermana Lee

Please enjoy these pictures of me and my new scripture cases and the random mirrors that they have around the CCM. We think they´re for firetrucks, but who knows, maybe they are so we can check out the length of our skirts haha
